Home Remedies ft. Olive Oil

Olive oil —that golden elixir found in many kitchens— is not just for cooking up delicious meals. This versatile oil, rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and healthy fats, has been cherished for centuries for its myriad of health and beauty benefits. Today, we’re going to share some home remedies you can cook up at home with Olive Oil.

1. Deep Conditioning Treatment for Hair

Olive oil is a powerhouse when it comes to hair care. Because it is emollient, it moisturises and nourishes your hair, making it a great deep conditioning treatment. Here’s how you can use it:

  • What you need: 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil (depending on your hair length), a shower cap, and a warm towel.

  • How to use: Warm the olive oil slightly (ensure it’s not too hot) and apply it generously to your hair and scalp. Massage it in, focusing on the ends of your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and wrap a warm towel around your head. Leave it on for 30 minutes to an hour, then rinse thoroughly with a mild shampoo.

2. Skin Moisturiser

Olive oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it doesn’t clog pores. (Whoop!) It’s an excellent natural moisturiser suitable for most skin types, especially dry and sensitive skin. Its antioxidant properties help to combat free radicals, keeping your skin looking youthful and radiant.

  • What you need: A few drops of extra virgin olive oil.

  • How to use: Cleanse your face, then put a few drops of olive oil on your skin and massage it in gently in circles. You can also mix olive oil with your favourite moisturiser for added hydration.

3. Nail and Cuticle Care

Olive oil is a fantastic remedy for brittle nails and dry cuticles. Its nourishing properties help to strengthen your nails and keep your cuticles soft and healthy.

  • What you need: A small bowl of warm olive oil.

  • How to use: Soak your nails and cuticles in warm olive oil for 10-15 minutes. This treatment can be done once a week for the best results.

4. Makeup Remover

Olive oil is an effective and gentle makeup remover, even for stubborn waterproof makeup. It breaks down the makeup without stripping your skin of its natural oils.

  • What you need: Extra virgin olive oil and cotton pads.

  • How to use: Apply a small amount of olive oil to a cotton pad and gently wipe away your makeup. Rinse your face with warm water and follow up with your regular cleanser if needed.

5. Lip Scrub

Olive oil combined with sugar makes a wonderful lip scrub that helps to exfoliate dead skin cells and leave your lips soft and smooth.

  • What you need: 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of sugar.

  • How to use: Mix the olive oil and sugar to create a scrub. Gently massage it onto your lips in circular motions, then rinse off with warm water.

Incorporating olive oil into your beauty routine can be such a game-changer. From deep conditioning treatments for your hair to nourishing your skin and nails, olive oil is a natural remedy that promises radiant results. So, next time you’re in your kitchen, don’t just reach for the olive oil for your salad – give your beauty regimen a boost with this amazing ingredient!

Love, MPL
