An itchy scalp is a very common condition caused by a number of different things, dry scalp being one of them. Thankfully, it’s easy to fix and we have 3 home remedies you can try that will sort you out in no time.
Jojoba Oil hair wrap
Why jojoba? Well, jojoba has the same make up as sebum, our natural hair oil created by the sebaceous glands, that helps our hair grow. Jojoba is commonly used to remedy acne, psoriasis and sunburn by being directly applied to the skin. It is also used topically to encourage the regrowth of hair in people who are balding.
Jojoba is a natural healer and moisturizer which can help rejuvenate your scalp. Here’s how you can make a wrap.
Step1: Coat hair in Jojoba
Step2: Wrap hair in a hot towel for 15 minutes
Step3: Rinse hair with only water
Alternatively, if you’re not keen on the wrap, you can massage a few drops into the scalp each day.
2. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a noninflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial oil that treats dandruff naturally. It is one of the best solutions to an itchy scalp.
If you suffer from an itchy scalp, chances are, you’ve scratched your scalp raw and have cuts on it. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic, which means you can still use it directly on your scalp.
You can use tea tree in a number of ways including:
- Add it to your shampoo or conditioner on wash day.
- Apply it directly to your scalp every morning and evening after a shower
- Massage it into your scalp every day for two weeks
- Mix it with coconut oil and use it as a base for your scalp
3. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider vinegar joins tea tree oil as one of the best solutions for an itchy scalp. ACV is also one of the faster solutions too. The vinegar in ACV levels out pH, which can help with dry patches. It also has very high anti-inflammation properties. The smell of ACV is the downside but you can always cover that up with a nice leave-in conditioner.
Here’s how to use apple cider vinegar for itchy scalp:
- After washing your hair, apply ACV directly onto your scalp and leave for 15-20 minutes.
- On any other day, mix ACV with a cup of water and spray onto hair and scalp.
An itchy scalp is extremely uncomfortable and can make you self-conscious but with these easy home remedies, there’s no reason to struggle.
